They say it's not the heat, it's the humidity. Either way,
August is sweltering and it's a perfect time for something cool.
Or Kool! We're happy to announce the return of Kool Gherks,
our whole dill pickle, to rickspicksnyc.com. And we're pleased
to be working for the third straight season with New York State
farmer Rick Pederson. His baby kirby cucumbers and dill flowers
have once again yielded a bright, fresh and aromatic pickle.
Rick taught us how cucumbers are sorted... by diameter. A
one-inch cuke is a number 2, and a one and a quarter inch cuke
is a number 2A. Inch and a half? That's called a number 3.
It's a strange system, but not surprising, since there's often
very little that's predictable about farming. Thanks Rick, for
the kirbies and for the info. Nice name, by the way!
